Shenzhen, China

July 2014

The second stop during my backpack trip to China was Shenzhen.  While the city does not have as many historical attractions as other famous cities in China, it has created a number of excellent theme parks which entertain and teach visitors about China and the world.

013I reserved a room at Cruise Inn in Shekou. This hotel is actually a cruise ship.  It was brought to this location when the sea was still there a few years ago, then the place was dried up, and now the whole area is a very modern tourist attraction with nice eateries and stores. 023As the landmark of the Shekou Sea World, the cruise ship hotel features comfortable ocean-themed guestrooms.

033Early in the morning, I walked around Sea World and found a statue of the Shekou mermaid.  Her name is Nuwa, who is the goddess of creation in China.

043I walked back to the cruise ship, Minghua, which used be a French passenger yacht.  I checked out the hotel and headed to a subway station.
053The Shenzhen metro was clean, fast, and comfortable. My destination was Window of the World.
063Shenzhen Window of the World is a fantastic replica park situated at the Overseas Chinese Town. Here you can see vivid replicas of the world's wonders, historical heritages, and famous scenic sites.

073Its goal is to bring honor to world cultures and showcase world wonders, historical relics, key points of interests and folk customs. 083You can also enjoy performances of folk songs and dances.
093Within one day, you can visit many reproductions of famous sites from different countries.  I visited Japan in less than one hour. 103"Give me one day, and I give you a wonderful world in return" is the slogan of Window of the World.

113Garden of World Sculptures. 123Miniature of Statue of Liberty.

133Window of the World is divided into five parts according to the five continents, and these five parts build rich and colorful world together in World Plaza, World Sculpture Garden, International Street, and Jurassic Universe. 143Jurassic Universe

153Temple in Thailand.

163Angkor Wat in Cambodia, which is on my bucket list.

173Looks like a village in Southeaster Asia.

183The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, Denmark.

193Miniature of Roman Colosseum. 203Sydney Opera House, which boasts a unique style, is a landmark of Australia.
